 Dr. Richard O. Follwell, DO, graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed a one-year rotating internship at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri.
He went on to complete a four-year residency training program in General Surgery from Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, MO in June 2003, where he focused his studies in laparoscopic and open Roux-en-Y divided gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Follwell is board-certified and he is an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons of America.
Dr. Follwell has extensive experience in laparoscopic and open bariatric surgery including gastric bypass, gastric band and vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Since he began his bariatric focus, he has performed and/or assisted with over 1000 bariatric surgeries. This experience is recognized by his Center of Excellence designation in conjunction with St. Alexius Hospital.
The COE designation was created to help patients choose the very best bariatric programs available. This designation is reserved for bariatric programs that demonstrate a dedication and ability to minimize risk to their patients and consistently perform successful bariatric surgical procedures. Centers of Excellence are re-evaluated on a regular basis to ensure a high level of care.
Dr. Follwell was born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa and enjoys camping, hunting and fishing in his spare time. He and his wife have three children.
